Dress code
This implies not only the temple, but its premises as well: the school, the parish hall, the garden and the parking lot. Many private schools demand that their pupils wear a special school uniform for better discipline and other reasons. However, our School, being a Church school and trying to uphold and teach its children the traditions of Russian Orthodox Church and Russian culture, wishing to bring them up as well-mannered and cultured persons, has not only practical, but also moral reasons for requiring it. Especially it concerns the girls of the middle to high grades, for whom it is improper to wear pants-only or short skirts (above the knees) to Church of school. Please take into consideration, that such immodest clothing displays the lack of respect not only to the teachers and older male students, but most of all, to the clergy that teaches the main class – the Law of God.
Beginning in 2010 each student will be required to wear to classes a special t-shirt or a sweatshirt with our Church and School logo on it. They will be sold in the Teachers’ Lounge during the registration and over the course of the school year.
Below is a quote from the rules for the Altar-serving and choir singing students, which could be treated as a model for school apparel:
For boys: long pants, shirts and dark shoes. They are not permitted to come wearing T-shirts, shorts, jeans, sneakers or flip-flops.
For girls: blouses and skirts, or dresses. Not permitted to come wearing short skirts, pants or sleeveless shirts.
We ask parents to pay serious attention to this matter and to make sure that every Saturday your child comes to Church school dressed in a way that does not violate its rules or show disrespect to the clergy and other teachers and students. This also includes the neatness and cleanliness of their clothes.
The students breaking these boundaries of modesty and neatness will not be permitted to classes. Thank you for your understanding.
